ORIUS

Orius (sometimes spelled Oreios) is one of the Centaurs named most recently, after being given the official number 330836. His orbit is around 100.4591 years, with an eccentricity of 0.42218501, and an inclination to the ecliptic 17.86873. It's perihelion is between Saturn and Uranus, it's aphelion out past Neptune, so it crosses both Uranus' and Neptune's orbits.

It was discovered on the 25th of April, 2009 at 3 Scorpio 26. The Sabian Symbol for that degree is "A youth holding a lighted candle." Interestingly, this is almost exactly opposite Chiron's position at its' discovery which was 3 Taurus 08.

Prior to receiving it's official name and number, it was designated as Minor Planet 2009 HW77.

MYTHOLOGY

I haven't found a lot of mythology on this Centaur. In fact, I've only found two references, both saying almost the same thing. I'll quote Pausanias from his "Description of Greece". Pholus was given a vessel of wine to take care of by Dionysus. :
Now when the jar had been opened and the sweet odour of the wine, because of its great age and strength, came to the Centaurs dwelling near there, it came to pass that they were driven mad; consequently they rushed in a body to the dwelling of Pholus and set about plundering him of the wine in a terrifying manner. At this Pholus hid himself in fear, but Heracles, to their surprise, grappled with those who were employing such violence. He had indeed to struggle with beings who were gods on their mother's side, who possessed the swiftness of horses, who had the strength of two bodies, and enjoyed in addition the experience and wisdom of men. The Centaurs advanced upon him, some with pine trees which they had plucked up together with the roots, others with great rocks, some with burning firebrands, and still others with axes such as are used to slaughter oxen. But he withstood them without sign of fear and maintained a battle which was worthy of his former exploits. The Centaurs were aided in their struggle by their mother Nephel, who sent down a heavy rain, by which she gave no trouble to those who had four legs, but for him who was supported upon two made the footing slippery. Despite all this Heracles maintained an astonishing struggle with those who enjoyed such advantages as these, slew the larger part of them, and forced the survivors to flee. Of the Centaurs which were killed the most renowned were Daphnis, Argeius, Amphion, also Hippotion, Orius, Isoples, Melanchaetes, and Thereus, Doupon, and Phrixus." There are at least two other individuals mentioned in mythology with the same name. One was a mountain god of Mount Othrys in Malis. The other was a man-eating, half-bear Thracian giant. He and his twin brother were transformed into birds by Hermes as punishment for their cruel barbarity.

Phil Sedgwick has hypothesized about the meaning of Orius based on it's known orbit:

"Over the years I have used the components of an orbit that can be translated astrologically. In the case of Orius we see his mission statement defined by his heliocentric node at 20 Taurus 25. The priority list and urgent concerns of Orius come to light by where he moves the fastest and turns about the Sun at perihelion - 10 Libra 47. Orius weighs in with a powerful Taurus-Libra theme, drawing heavily on the common denominator of those signs, rulership by Venus.
Based upon the node and perihelion degree of Orius, following is a small collection of keywords that may apply. Per Orius, we look into relationship matters and the social perceptions of those relationships and through the lens of how those interactions may affect social standing.
Positive - perceptive of demands of society, sense of what people want and think they need, favorably responsive to senses, balanced and fair, clear perceptions of material goals, accurate assessment on internal attributes and tuned into creativity. Clarity on the idea that a relationship does not make you successful, nor does success make one relationship-worthy.
Negative - greedy, possessive, directorial in a controlling way, muddled view on materialism and relationship priorities.
Mundane - tuned into collective need, innovative in terms of creativity and technology, able to create things that simplify life, artfully astute, tasteful in ambiance and decor.
Ceremonial - taking time to savor and celebrate great accomplishment, celebratory, inclined to toast and propitiate, honoring the good and inspiring."
